Learn how to brew fresh camp coffee using the BioLite KettlePot & Coffee Set on your CampStove. Step-by-step guide for french press style coffee outdoors.

Quick answer

Use the BioLite KettlePot & Coffee Set to brew fresh french press style coffee directly on your CampStove in about 10 minutes.

Why the KettlePot works for camp coffee

The KettlePot is designed to cook like a pot and pour like a kettle, so you can boil water and then brew coffee without switching containers. Its lightweight stainless steel body handles direct heat from the CampStove, and the included CoffeePress lets you press grounds just like a french press at home.

One trade-off: you need a CampStove to use the KettlePot. It does not work with standard camp stoves or open flames. If you already own a BioLite stove, this accessory saves pack space because it doubles as a hard-carry case for the stove.

How to brew camp coffee with the KettlePot

  1. 1. Set up your CampStove: Place your BioLite CampStove on a stable, level surface. Open the air intake and fan controls. Light a small fire using dry twigs or pellets inside the burn chamber. Make sure the fire is established before placing the KettlePot on top. A weak fire will take longer to boil water.
  2. 2. Fill and heat the KettlePot: Fill the KettlePot with fresh water to just below the spout opening. Place it on the CampStove and let the water come to a rolling boil. This typically takes 4-6 minutes depending on fire intensity. Don't fill past the spout line—water expands when boiling and can spill into the fire.
  3. 3. Add coffee grounds to the CoffeePress: While the water heats, unscrew the CoffeePress plunger and add coarse ground coffee to the press chamber. Use about 1 tablespoon per 6 ounces of water, or adjust to taste. Coarse grounds work best. Fine grounds can slip through the press screen and make muddy coffee.
  4. 4. Pour hot water and steep: Carefully pour the boiling water from the KettlePot into the CoffeePress chamber over the grounds. Stir gently with a non-metal utensil, then let it steep for 4 minutes. Steeping longer than 4 minutes can make the coffee bitter. Set a timer if you're distracted by camp chores.
  5. 5. Press and serve: Slowly press the plunger down with steady, even pressure. Pour the brewed coffee into your mug. Rinse the CoffeePress and KettlePot with water after use to prevent residue buildup. Press slowly—rushing can force grounds past the screen. A quick rinse keeps the gear fresh for the next brew.
